From Film to Frame: Slim Aarons’ Transparencies Reimagined

Few photographers captured the golden glow of mid-century glamour like Slim Aarons. His lens immortalised the leisure class. Sun-soaked poolsides, European villas, and glamorous gatherings with a warmth that feels as timeless today as it did in the 1960s.

Now, for the first time, Electric Gallery is proud to present a limited collection of fine-art prints created directly from Slim Aarons’ original transparencies. The very slides he shot on location. Digitally remastered by Getty Images from Aarons’ personal archive, these images preserve every grain, tone, and nuance of his iconic Kodachrome compositions.

Each transparency print is a bridge between eras: the analog intimacy of film and the clarity of contemporary printmaking. Collectors can now experience Slim’s world as it was first captured. Vibrant, cinematic, and impeccably composed.

Available Works

Our debut collection includes eight of Slim’s most celebrated images:

  • Poolside Gossip - Palm Springs’ most famous pool party, frozen in 1970s sunlit perfection.
  • Palm Beach Idyll - Elegant ease beneath the Florida palms.
  • El Venero - Spanish splendour framed in sun and stone.
  • Leisure in Antibes - Riviera chic at its most effortless.
  • Keep Your Cool - Summer serenity and crisp white linens.
  • Desert House Party - Mid-century modernism meets desert glamour.
  • Lounging in Verbier - Alpine elegance with a view.
  • Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc - The French Riviera’s most legendary retreat.

Each piece is printed from Getty’s high-resolution scans of Slim Aarons’ original 35mm slides, capturing the exact hues and details of his film photography. A vivid reminder of the analog craft behind every shot.

Why It Matters

These transparency prints represent more than art, they are a window into Slim’s creative process. Before digital photography, every image began as a carefully exposed slide, stored in boxes now considered art history treasures. This collection celebrates that legacy, allowing collectors to own a tangible connection to the photographer’s original medium.

From the light tables of Slim’s studio to the walls of your home, these works tell a story of craftsmanship, colour, and enduring style.

Who Was Slim Aarons?

Slim Aarons (1916–2006) was an American photographer celebrated for capturing what he famously called “attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places.” After serving as a World War II combat photographer, Aarons turned his lens toward high society, documenting post-war wealth, leisure, and sophistication with an insider’s eye.
His iconic images of Hollywood stars, European aristocrats, and jet-setters at play defined the look of mid-century glamour and continue to influence design, fashion, and photography today.
