Tracey Emin

Dame Tracey Emin is one of Britain’s most influential contemporary artists, renowned for an intensely personal practice that explores love, desire, loss, identity and the complexities of human relationships. Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, installation and her instantly recognisable handwritten neons, Emin transforms intimate experiences and emotions into work that feels both deeply autobiographical and universally relatable.

Born in London in 1963 and closely associated with Margate, Emin rose to prominence during the 1990s, with works such as My Bed becoming defining images of contemporary British art.

Her career has since included representing Great Britain at the Venice Biennale, major international exhibitions and, in 2024, a Damehood for services to art, cementing her position as one of the most significant British artists of her generation.
