Nina Chanel Abney

Nina Chanel Abney is an American artist whose bold, graphic paintings fuse representation and abstraction to capture the chaotic rhythm of contemporary life. Her work tackles themes of race, politics, celebrity, and identity through fragmented, fast-moving narratives, channelling influences from Matisse, Picasso, Léger, and the Harlem Renaissance into a distinctly 21st-century visual language.

Born in Harvey, Illinois in 1982, Abney has exhibited internationally, with recent solo shows at Jeffrey Deitch in Los Angeles, Anthony Gallery in Chicago, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami. Her work is held in major museum collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art and MoMA in New York.
