Juno Calypso

Juno Calypso is a British photographer and artist known for her highly stylised self-portraits exploring femininity, desire, isolation and the rituals of beauty. Working with carefully constructed sets and a distinctive palette of soft pinks, pastel interiors and surreal domestic spaces, her photographs balance dark humour with an unsettling sense of solitude.

Calypso first gained widespread attention through her alter ego, Joyce, whom she photographed alone in hotel rooms and later within an American couples-only honeymoon resort. Blurring glamour, melancholy and the absurd, her work examines ideas of perfection, self-image and the expectations placed upon women, creating cinematic photographs that are immediately recognisable and quietly provocative.
