Euan Roberts is a Hastings-based artist whose work focuses on imparting a feeling of optimism, hope or joy onto the viewer.
Roberts is drawn to subjects which are everyday and often overlooked. Using bright, childlike colours in thick acrylic paint he explores the side of humanity that society so often tries to repress.
The recurring use of the phrase “I’m OK” in his artwork creates a bridge of relatability between viewer and artist, and has helped raise awareness for mental health issues by encouraging people to speak up when things are not “OK”. Roberts’ subjects are often unsettling or bleak, but his visual language always remains upbeat, optimistic and inspirational.
